Was all set to go to Camber when I woke up, but I was reigned in when it
became apparent that disappearing for the day to leave a hungover wife with
the nippers wasn't going to be an acceptable course of action. So I opted
for a local sail and got myself down to Posh at about 11.30. Usurf looked
pretty stacked on a 5.0 and Big Mark was changing down to a 5.3, so after
starting to rig my 5.0, I was reminded of Basher's 'windiest at midday'
comment and opted for the 4.5 instead. It was a good choice for most of
the day, although there was quite a long lull shortly after launching when
I thought I may have made the wrong choice. I tried to get Usurf to apply
some peer pressure, but my first few loop attempts were pretty half
hearted. Then I had a bit of a breakthrough in the last half hour when I
was the only one left on the water. I set myself the target of 10 loop
attempts in the next five runs out. I must be autistic or something,
because the counting really helped. Most were pretty rubbish attempts, but
the fear retreated a fair way by the end. I also started going for more
moves, so tacks and duck gybes on my weak side. It felt really good to be
trying stuff and I came off the water well happy. And in the middle of all
the learning, I got some great grooveriding in - some pretty high floaty
jumps and for about half an hour the waves got quite big and there was some
fun to be had with them to (not 15 bottom turns fun though). Very pleased
with the whole day.
